Good Friday Walk an Amazing Feat of Faith

More than 1,400 Catholic students and young people from Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains came together in faith to participate in the annual Good Friday walk, a 21-kilometre pilgrimage from Blacktown to Parramatta.

Congratulations Lulu (Y10) on a spectacular result in the incredibly demanding trail running festival, Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB (UTA). Lulu won her age division in the UTA 11km event, and was the fourth woman home overall!

✈️ We’ve got a pilot in Year 12! Congratulations to Kirrilly (Y12) who has officially earned her Private Pilot Licence after completing numerous exams and flight tests. With more than 80 hours flying time already under her belt, she’s now setting her sights on a Commercial Pilot Licence (she has 120 hours to go). This will open doors to an exciting future as a pilot anywhere in the world! Future work opportunities include being a flight instructor, search and rescue, and flying for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Kirrilly’s journey is a testament to her determination, discipline and passion. Our students had a fantastic opportunity to hear from Macquarie University Lecturer in Criminology, Dr Vincent Hurley today as part of our series of lunchtime pathways talks known as The Feed. Vince generously shared his time to talk with students about what is involved in the study of Criminology, and what types of careers exist in this exciting field. He also answered specific questions about university, policing and study options. Earlier this month, St Columba's hosted Round 1 of the Blue Mountains Debating Competition, with 25 students from Years 7–9 participating as debaters and chairpeople. The students' confidence, clarity, and conduct were outstanding and their debates were thoughtful and polished. Special congratulations to Year 7 Team 1 and Year 8 Team 1 on their wins! 📚 BOOK AN ADVENTURE! 🌍✨ Students and staff at St Columba's recently immersed themselves in a week-long celebration dedicated to the joy of books and the power of reading. From daily treasure hunts and magical decorations (think Hogwarts, Middle Earth, Wonderland, Narnia, and more!) to a themed cake stall and picnic lunch boxes, every day was packed with literary fun. 🎂🗺️ To conclude the week students and staff came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. The St Columba's Community has rallied big time and we have 278 lovingly knitted and crocheted squares, plus a fully completed baby blanket all ready to drop of at The Creative Fringe for their TOTS Blanket Challenge We might wait for the rain to subside before we drop off. Huge thanks to every person who has contributed so far! Don't stop with those needles and hooks though! The challenge continues right through until the end of term 2.
