World Environment Day, celebrated each year on June 5, is the most renowned day for environmental action.
This year the theme is biodiversity – a concern that is both urgent and existential. Recent events, from the bushfires in Australia, the US and Brazil, to locust infestations across East Africa – and now, a global disease pandemic – demonstrate the interdependence of humans and the webs of life, in which we all exist.
As we enter into a week celebrating the World Environment, we want to highlight how some of our schools are caring for our earth.
How lucky are our students at St Columba's Catholic College having our very own farm onsite.
Check out the chickens, roosters, llamas and cows. They are so well cared for.

We are thrilled to celebrate the spectacular water polo achievements of Nikolas (Y11) throughout 2025. This year Nikolas played five games for the Opens New Zealand Water Polo team and was named on the 2025 New Zealand U/18 National Water Polo team. He was selected in the Opens NSWCCC Water Polo Team (for the fourth year in a row!) and competed in the Australian Schools Water Polo Championships in Brisbane in August. These impressive achievements are no doubt the result of determination and hard work over many years. The St Columba's community is incredibly proud of Nikolas and we all look forward to supporting him as he continues his water polo success.
