Helping Your Child Learn at Home
Explore practical strategies every parent can use!
How can you help your child learn at home without stress, conflict, or overwhelm?
Join CSPD’s Learning Outcomes team for a practical parent session focused on simple, realistic ways families can support learning at home, from primary through to secondary school.
You’ll hear practical ideas around:
- study and homework routines
- helping children retain information
- reading and learning habits
- understanding some of the teaching approaches used in today’s CSPD classrooms
We’ll also briefly unpack the “why” behind some of the changes happening in schools and explain how parents and schools can work together to support student success.
Whether your child is in primary or secondary school, this session will provide practical takeaways you can start using at home straight away.

National Reconciliation Week is held each year between 27 May and 3 June - these dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. This week at the College, staff are wearing "I'm in" buttons and a display in the library gives students lots to explore. We have the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Innovate RAP available, the 'How to be a First Nations Ally' booklet from Amnesty International, and information from the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation KBHAC. We have loads of books to read and even some First Nations artists Spotify recommendations. At St Columba's we are #AllInForReconciliation #NRW2026

Last Friday, St Columba’s proudly celebrated Book Week in the very best way — with creativity, community spirit and plenty of fun! 📚✨ Students and staff embraced the occasion with incredible costumes and enthusiastic participation in our annual Book Week Parade. From classic literary characters to imaginative creations, the effort and joy on display made the day something truly special. We also enjoyed our annual "Book Themed Cake Competition' with some incredible and delicious creations. While Book Week is often associated with primary schools, it remains a much-loved tradition here at St Columba’s. It is wonderful to see our students and teachers continue to celebrate the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination together each year. Importantly, our Book Week celebrations also support a cause close to the College community — the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Through this annual fundraiser, we help support access to culturally relevant books and literacy resources for children and communities across remote Australia. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated and helped make the day such a success. 📖 Donations to our Book Week Indigenous Literacy Foundation fundraiser via the QKR App will remain open until today for anyone still wishing to contribute. Today’s Feed in the Quad was a little different, with not one, but two organisations visiting the College to speak with students about their future pathways. We welcomed Josh, Zack and Lincoln from SEDA, who shared information about SEDA’s Double Diploma program and the unique opportunities it offers students interested in sport, business and hands-on learning pathways. We also welcomed Gen and Wael from Western Sydney University, who spoke with students about everything they need to know about studying at Western — from courses and campus life to university pathways and support services. It was fantastic to see so many students engaging so positively throughout the lunchtime session, asking thoughtful and insightful questions about their future options. A big thank you to SEDA and Western Sydney University for taking the time to visit the College and connect with our students today. Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese
